Melvin Joseph Eugene Waye

1951 – 2022

Melvin Joseph Eugene Waye of Miramichi, NB husband of the late Margaret “Peggy” (Manderson) Waye passed away peacefully at his residence on Monday, October 10, 2022 surrounded by his family. Born in Newcastle, NB, the son of the late Alphonse and Louise (Matchett) Waye.

Melvin was employed as a Power Engineer at the Kraft mill for over thirty years. He was also a long-time business owner of; Waye’s Grocery, Total U, and Glamour.

Melvin was also a Life Member of the Miramichi Kinsmen Club, where he served as Register, Treasurer, Director, Chairman of many club projects and President. Melvin was an active member of St. Mary’s Parish where he served on many committees. He also volunteered his time for various organizations in the community, and was an avid sports fan, seen frequently at the rink and local ballfields.

He is survived by his three daughters: Amy (Josh Lewis), Kari (Cameron Foran) and Taryn (John Gray), grandchildren: Ben, Will, Jack and Nolan, sisters: Helena Waye (Bill Riley) and Jennifer Sullivan (George) brothers: Wendell (Sandra) and Larry, sister-in-law: Brenda Waye, as well as many nieces, nephews and extended family.

Besides his wife, Peggy, and his parents, Melvin is predeceased by his sister Cathy and brothers; Michael and Francis.

The family wishes to express appreciation for the exceptional care provided by Hospice Miramichi and Extra Mural.

Visitation will be held at Bell’s Funeral Home on Wednesday from 7:00 – 9:00 PM and on Thursday from 2:00 – 4:00 and 7:00 – 9:00 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from St. Mary’s Catholic Church on Friday, October 14, 2022 at 2:00 PM. A reception will follow the mass in the parish center.
