The death of Mr. David Raymond Smythe beloved husband of Carol Anne (McGowan) Smythe of Miramichi, NB, occurred on Tuesday, January 4, 2022 at the Saint John Regional Hospital at the age of 82. Born in Saint John, NB, David was the son of the late Hilton and Marie (Butler) Smythe. David was retired from Repap/UPM- Kymmene where he worked as an accountant. He was a very active member of St. Andrew’s Anglican Church and used his accountant knowledge serving as treasurer of the church, the food bank and the curling club. He was also past president of the curling club and enjoyed many hobbies including fishing, golfing, curling, jigsaw and crossword puzzles.
Besides his loving wife: Carol Anne, David is survived by: daughters: Lori Anne Bass (Derrick) of Saint John, NB; Julie Kazamer (Tibor) of Whitecourt, AB; sisters-in-law: Linda Smythe of Miramichi, NB; Catherine Shea (Michael) of Maces Bay, NB; grandchildren: Riley, Ryan (Megan), Jaden, Emma and Logan as well as nephews.
Besides his parents, David is predeceased by: twin brother: Robert; sister: Sonya Fox and brother-in-law: Paul McGowan; nephew: Carl McGowan and niece: Stacey Foxe.
The family will receive visitors at Bell’s Funeral Home on Friday, January 7, 2022 from 4-7 PM. The funeral service will be held from the Sterling Bell Memorial Chapel on Saturday, January 8, 2022 at 11 AM with Rev. Thomas Nisbett officiating. Burial will take place in Maces Bay Cemetery later in the spring.
Please note: All public health protocols will be followed for visitation and funeral service. Masks, Social Distancing, ID and proof of vaccination are required at both visitation and funeral service.
