The death of Van Clarence Somers of Miramichi, NB, occurred on Tuesday, October 12, 2021 at the Miramichi Regional Hospital at the age of 74. Born in Newcastle, NB, he is the son of Ruby (Kamermans) Somers of Miramichi, NB and the late Millar Somers.
Van graduated in 1967 from Harkins High School then served his country for 5 Years in the Air Force, after the air force, Van had several jobs which included school bus driver, Petro Canada – Newcastle and taxi driver. Van was a wonderful son and best big brother we were blessed to have. His zest for life and greatest pride was watching his son, Rick race car driving and his daughter Sonya’s great talent in artistry. He was so proud to be a dad and grandfather they were his life. Van’s greatest hero was his mom Ruby Somers. We will sure miss him coming through the door at moms with that handsome smile. We will love you and miss you Van until we meet again, Son & Brother All our Love.
Besides his mom: Ruby, Van is survived by: special companion: Nikki Matchett; son: Ricky Somers (Kathleen); daughter: Sonya Justason (Otty); mother of his children: Kathy Somers; siblings: Sharon (George) Dutcher, Ronnie (Stacey) Somers, Terry (Donna) Somers, Darlene (Blake) Somers, Margie (Shawn) Power; grandchildren: Brooke Somers and Arthur Justason and his latest pride and joy great grandson: Zack; aunt: Emily Somers as well as several nieces and nephews.
Besides his father, Van is predeceased by: grandparents: John and Marguerite Kamermans and Myrtle and Elishia Somers; sister: Judy Burns and niece: Michaela MacDonald.
A graveside service will be held from St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Cemetery on Friday, October 15, 2021 at 2 PM with Father John Keoughan officiating.
Please Note: Due to Covid-19 the family requests that people please wear a mask and social distance at the Cemetery.
