Douglas Clarke Parker (Po 1St Class) passed away March 9, 2021 at the Windsor Hospital, Nova Scotia.
Born in Newcastle, NB July 1944 he was the son of the late George Raymond and the late Winnifred Mary (Jeffrey) Parker. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Adele (MacLean) and daughters: Kim and Karen and his greatest joy: granddaughter Leah; by his sisters: Margo (Murray) Arnold, Mary (Gerald) Pineau, Donna (late Marlon) Kenny and Barbara Remsik; sister-in-law: Barb, and brother-in-law Gordon (Ina) and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Doug attended Harkins all his life. During his high school years, he lived with his grandfather: the late Lester Jeffrey in Nordin. After leaving school he joined the Navy as an electrician and retired after 32 years of service. He served on the Cape Scott, Cresent, Caapelle, Iroquois, Assiniboine, Fraser and Preserver. He also instructed electricians at Stadacona. His Navy days offered him the opportunity to see the world and he continued his travel passion with his wife, Adele visiting the Western and Eastern Caribbean, Alaska and Europe. He enjoyed his summer vacations spent visiting family (and attending Harkins School Reunions) on the Miramichi and other family members in Ontario, while visiting various amusement parks along the way.
Doug was an avid fan of Nascar racing, the Boston Bruins and the Toronto Blue Jays. He was known for his smiling face and caring ways. He was outspoken and had a dry sense of humor. He would do anything for anyone and will certainly be missed by all who knew him.
There will be no funeral due to COVID. Cremation has already taken place. A “Celebration of Life” will take place at the Elmsdale Legion in Elmsdale, NS at a later date.
Doug requested that any memorial donations may be made to “The Poppy Fund” at the Royal Canadian Legion, Elmsdale Branch 48, 850 Highway 2, Elmsdale, NS B2S 1M1.
