As we announce the passing of James 'Chester' Creighton, Chester as he liked to be called, we the family are saddened but thankful for the many great years we were able spend with him, Chester passed away peacefully at the Miramichi Regional Hospital on October 13th, at the age of 91 with his family by his side. Born in New Mills, NB on June 27th 1929, he was the son of the late James Creighton and Marguerite (MacMillan) Nichol Creighton.

He will be missed greatly by his loving wife Edith (Hamilton) Creighton of 56 years, his daughter Cindy Coull, Son-in-law Gary Coull, two grandchildren Megan and Matthew, as well as Brother-in-law Danny(Loretta) Hamilton of Charlo, Ronnie Hamilton of Moncton, Sister-in-law Marjorie Nichol of Montreal and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents and his infant son, he is predeceased by his brother Murray Nichol of Montreal, sister Dorothy (Doug) Pickering of Ottawa, and his Sister-in-law Liz Hamilton.

Chester originally came to Miramichi in 1979 to work with Fisheries and Oceans which he was employed with for 32 years between Charlo and Miramichi. At a young age Chester found his appreciation for hard work, his love for driving, clean cars, being part of a church family and especially Edith. Chester spent many years of his life caring for others and looking after his family. He never missed an opportunity to speak praises of his daughter, Son-in-law and his two grandchildren that he was very proud of. His grandchildren held a special place in his heart and he valued the time spent with them. We will remember Chester for his kindness, his generosity and his gentle nature.

Chester was a member of St James and St John United Church, The Highland Society of Miramichi, the FSNA and The Miramichi Salmon Association. He was a volunteer with Meals on Wheels for 17 years and treasured the role he played on the set up committee at their church.

The family will receive visitors at Bell’s Funeral Home on Thursday, October 15, 2020 from 7-9 PM. The Funeral Service will be held from St. James and St. John United Church, Miramichi on Friday at 2 PM with Rev. Alice Szemök and Rev. John Fraser officiating. Interment will follow in the Miramichi Cemetery.
