D’Arcy Gillis Matchett
1976 – 2020
D’Arcy Gillis Matchett of Red Bank, NB passed away accidently on June 22, 2020 at the age of 44. Born in
Newcastle, NB, he is the son of Gary and Barb (Gillis) Matchett.

After graduating from NSER, D’Arcy went on to study Culinary Technology at NBCC Moncton to become
a Red Seal Chef. He started his culinary career at the Keltic Lodge in Ingonish, Cape Breton and then
continued to work through various locations in New Brunswick, such as the Rodd Miramichi, Atlantic
Institution in Renous, NB, and the Miramichi Regional Hospital. He decided to change his career and
went back to school at NBCC Miramichi to pursue Corrections which led him to his present position as
cook at the New Brunswick Youth Care Centre. D’Arcy also owned his own catering business on a part
time basis.

D’Arcy was a member of the St. Thomas Apostle Church in Red Bank, a Royal Canadian Legion Branch
#90 member and was on the board of the Sunny Corner Recreational Council. He was an avid volunteer.
D’Arcy was passionate about local history and genealogy. He loved being outdoors, hunting, fishing and
boating. He played the guitar and thoroughly enjoyed his time with friends and family, living life to the
fullest.

Besides his parents: Gary and Barb, he is survived by one brother: Ryan Matchett of Red Bank; one
sister: Gillian Row (Darren) of Miramichi, NB; and one nephew: Hunter Row as well as many aunts,
uncles and cousins.

D’Arcy is predeceased by: his maternal grandparents: Ruth and Gene Gillis, his paternal grandparents:
Omar and Theresa Matchett, his aunt Patty Matchett-Murphy and uncle Wayne Manderson.

Due to COVID-19 a private Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from St. Thomas the Apostle
Roman Catholic Church, Red Bank, NB, with Father Dan Melanson officiating.

As expressions of sympathy, in D’Arcy’s memory, donations may be made to the Crohn’s and Colitis
