Gerard Murdoch Hare, PhD in Biology died March 12, 2020 at the Miramichi Hospital after a sudden illness.

Dr. Hare had been a research biologist with a specialty in microbial diseases of fish. He worked for the Department of Fisheries and Oceans and later as a Professor at the University of New Brunswick. He was a world renowned salmon expert, his research supported the First Nations Fishing rights in cases brought before the federal courts. His environmental impact analysis helped in the preservation and promotion of fishing rights for the First Nations peoples.

Gerry was an avid fisherman and inventor. He developed a prototype and patented unique fishing rods. He enjoyed professional wrestling, raising and training racehorses and exploring in so many ways his love of nature, especially the riverways and forests of New Brunswick.

He will be dearly missed and forever loved by his wife Verna Hare, his children Heather, Cindy, Terry and grandchildren Rianne, Garrett, Devin, Rowan and Autumn, as well as his loving dogs Molly and Tasha.

A private family service will be held with a public memorial in the spring.
