Thomas Alexander “Sonny” Matheson
1936-2019

Thomas Alexander “Sonny” Matheson, husband of Shirley (Scott) Matheson, his wife of 54 years of Miramichi, passed away at the Miramichi Regional Hospital on Wednesday, October 23rd, 2019 at the age of 83.
Born in Newcastle, Sonny was the son of the late Thomas and Mamie (Pyne) Matheson.
Sonny was a former member of Masonic Lodge #17 F&AM, Miramichi Shriners, Royal Canadian Legion Branch #10, Newcastle Curling Club and a former member of the Canadian Army Reserve.
Sonny loved camping, bowling, darts, spending time at Ritchie Wharf and was a devoted fan of the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Sonny is survived by one daughter: Shannon (Jake) Stewart of Blackville, NB; one son: Scott (Catherine) Matheson of Sussex, NB; one sister: Hilda Matheson of Miramichi, NB; seven grandchildren: Travis, Todd, River, Roman, Leia, Abby and Meadow; three step grandchildren: Andrea, Austin and Alyssa; one great grandchild: Shelby; one niece: Charlene Dignam-Conroy (Jimmy); three nephews: Paul White, Brian Hill (Theresa) and Bruce Hill as well one sister in law: June (Edward) Dignam of Miramichi.
Sonny is predeceased by his parents: Thomas and Mamie (Pyne) Matheson; two sisters: Elizabeth Hill and Mona White as well as two nephews: Brent Hill and Peter White.
At Sonny’s request there will be no visitation or Funeral. A public graveside service will take place at 2 PM on Saturday, October 26th at the Miramichi Cemetery with Reverend Gillis Smith officiating.
As expressions of sympathy, in Sonny’s memory, donations may be made to a memorial of one’s choice.
